Pelly - Yukon Canoeing

Day 1
Meet at Whitehorse Airport at 9:00 A.M., and travel to Pelly Crossing for the official launch of the trip.† We camp on the Pelly River.

Day 2
Visit the Pelly Farm and then canoe to the Yukon River and camp at Fort Selkirk

Day 3
Spend the day sightseeing and photographing at Fort Selkirk, originally founded by Robert Campbell of the Hudson's Bay Co. in 1848.† Selkirk was the sight of a town in the†† gold rush, as the Canadian government sent a company of the Yukon† Field Force to join the RCMP there.† The remains of the settlement make for an interesting day.


Day 4-8
Canoe the Yukon River.† We should arrive in Dawson in the late afternoon of day 8, depending on the pace of the trip.

Participants should be familiar with the six basic canoe strokes (bow, reverse, "J", pry, draw and sweep). They should also have some experience with river paddling. Clients should be prepared to camp in wilderness conditions for 11 days. Be aware that Yukon weather can vary - from long, hot days (when one must guard against over exposure to sun), to cold days and nights with rain, wind or even, on occasion, snow.
Tour Includes:
  • services of a fully qualified guide and an assistant
  • all group equipment including canoes, paddles, life-jackets, tents (if you have a tent you would like to use, you may bring it)
  • all meals on the river
  • transportation from Whitehorse airport to the Pelly River
  • transportation from the pickup at Dawson City to Whitehorse
  • Two nights bed and breakfast in Dawson City

  • transportation to and from Whitehorse
  • meals and accommodation in Whitehorse
  • meals (except breakfasts) in Dawson City
  • any side trips before or after the trip (suggestions for other places to visit or things to do while in the Yukon will be included in the information package, which will be sent to you upon receipt of your trip registration and deposit)

  • 60-30 days prior to departure - 25% refund
  • 29 days or less prior to departure - no refund

Great Expeditions cannot be responsible for negligent conduct or financial irresponsibility of these suppliers, since they maintain no control over them. Such passenger conveyance, hotel accommodation, etc. is subject to the laws of the country or state where provided. In addition, Great Expeditions assumes no liability resulting directly or indirectly from any of the following causes: acts of God, detention, annoyance, weather, quarantine, strikes, civil disturbance, theft, government regulations, etc. over which it has no control. Great Expeditions reserves the right to substitute hotels and leaders and to alter the itinerary when deemed necessary or advisable. The right is also reserved to cancel any trip prior to departure upon refund of all payments received which shall release Great Expeditions from any further liability. Great Expeditions reserves the right to decline to accept or retain any person or member of any tour should personís actions or general deportment impede the operation of the tour or the rights or welfare or enjoyment of other members of the tour, and it is agreed a refund of the amount recovered from suppliers or unused land services is the limit of Great Expeditionís responsibility.


    CARRIER'S RESPONSIBITLITY
    No carrier shall have or incur any responsibility or liability to any passenger or for property accompanying passengers, except for its liability as a common carrier. In particular, Great Expeditions advises the customer that any carrierís liability may be limited by its tariffs, conditions of carriage and international conventions and agreements.
