Pelly - Yukon Canoeing

Seasonal Departures ,   Length: 10 days
The great gold rush of 1896-1899 attracted people from all over the world to the Yukon - "land of the midnight sun". Although the lure of the gold rush has passed, the magic of Yukon dreams and adventures is as strong as ever. People are still attracted to the majestic mountains, wide valleys and winding rivers. The canoe trip from Pelly Crossing to Dawson City captures this sense of adventure and history. The Pelly and Yukon Rivers are in virtually untouched areas and contain a large variety of wildlife. The scenery is varied, as it passes through some beautiful mountains and forests.

This trip is a ten-day trip, which includes two nights in the classic gold rush city, Dawson. We spend two days paddling on the Pelly River and then camp for two nights at historic Fort Selkirk, located at the confluence of the Yukon and Pelly Rivers. We then continue on, spending five days paddling the Yukon River, where each night we pick out a new sandbar in the middle of the river to camp on for the evening. This trip truly captures the adventure, beauty and spirit of Yukon wilderness travel. The rivers are all grade 1 (no rapids) and there are no portages!

I had never been camping in my life, never mind canoeing. Now, two and a half years later, I still carry on to anyone who will listen how the tour set me up for my life long recreation passion. I had the best time of my life there, and that's no exaggeration.
